“My Health Has Improved Since Leaving Office” – Buhari Reflects on Leadership Challenges, Life After Presidency

Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has spoken about his time in office, describing the country as a difficult and complex nation to govern.

Speaking at an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting at the Katsina Government House, Buhari shared his experiences and reflections since leaving office in May 2023.

The former president noted that while he made concerted efforts to address Nigeria’s numerous challenges, criticisms from different quarters were unavoidable. “Those outside the corridors of power do not understand the complexities and difficulties facing Nigeria,” Buhari remarked.

Reflecting on his current state, Buhari mentioned that his health has significantly improved since stepping down. “People who visited me told me I look better than before,” he said, hinting at the toll leadership had taken on his well-being during his eight years as president.

The APC stakeholders’ meeting, which was attended by notable figures including former governors Aminu Bello Masari and Ibrahim Shehu Shema, as well as current Governor Dikko Umar Radda, was held ahead of the upcoming local government elections in Katsina State scheduled for February 15.

Also present were members of the National Assembly and other APC chieftains, who gathered to deliberate on the party’s strategies for the elections.
