Tunde Bakare, the overseer of Citadel Global Community Church, has made it clear that his recent visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not about seeking personal or political benefits.
Bakare, who was one of the aspirants in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary in 2023, visited President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa last week.
The meeting, which became a trending topic in political circles, led to public speculations suggesting that Bakare might be seeking political appointments or positioning himself for some form of personal reward.
However, Bakare responded to those claims during a church service held on Sunday. Addressing his congregation, he strongly denied having any selfish motives behind his visit. According to him, his intentions were purely focused on Nigeria’s growth and development.
“Some people still think he has gone there to settle himself. In what way have I settled myself before? What they gave me, I returned. What am I looking for?” he told the church.
Bakare further explained that his interaction with President Tinubu had nothing to do with politics or personal advancement. Instead, he said the meeting was about discussing practical steps that could help move Nigeria in the right direction.
“It’s not about just reservations. It’s about how the country will go well. My personal vision is to see a nation that works in my lifetime,” he said while speaking to reporters after the meeting.
He also noted that he gave the president some suggestions on ways to address national challenges but stated that it was up to Tinubu to decide whether or not to follow those ideas.
“I gave him my suggestions, but the final decision is his,” he added.
