Nationwide Protest: Stray Bullet Kills Businessman in Kebbi

The #EndBadGovernance protest in Kebbi has turned violent as a stray bullet struck and killed a local businessman. The bullet, allegedly fired by marine police near the Yauri river, hit the man while he was in his shop selling plastic goods.

Malam Umar Bako Yelwa, a resident who witnessed the incident, confirmed the occurrence. According to him, the protest turned violent when demonstrators blocked the federal highway, causing significant traffic disruptions into Yauri town.

Yelwa reported that the marine police, in their attempt to disperse the protesters, fired bullets. One of these bullets tragically found its way into the businessman’s shop, killing him instantly. The identity of the deceased plastic seller has not been released, but his death has escalated tensions in the Yauri local government area.

Efforts to get an official statement from the Nigeria Police Force, Kebbi State Command, have so far been unsuccessful. The police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, did not respond to phone calls or text messages seeking comments on the incident.
