A dramatic incident unfolded in Kuchibuyi Village, Abuja, as a local herbalist’s attempt to test a self-made bulletproof charm ended in severe injuries. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed the event, describing it as both alarming and reckless.
According to SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, the incident occurred on November 23, 2024. A distress call was made by a local resident, Shandam Michael, reporting that Ismail Usman, a herbalist known for experimenting with unconventional methods, had injured himself while testing the effectiveness of his charm.
In an ill-fated experiment, Usman used a shotgun to shoot himself in the stomach, believing his charm would protect him. Unfortunately, the charm failed, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
Police officers from the Byazhin Division responded quickly to the scene and found Usman in critical condition. He was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital for emergency care before being transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for further treatment.
During their investigation, the police discovered the shotgun used in the experiment, along with various charms and materials related to the failed test. SP Adeh noted that Usman would face charges, including unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide, under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, condemned the incident, stating, “This situation illustrates the serious risks of engaging in reckless behavior. We strongly advise the community to avoid such dangerous practices.”
