The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for external candidates. Out of 84,799 students who sat for the exams, 57,114 secured at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics. This represents a 67.35 percent pass rate.
The announcement was made by NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, at the council’s headquarters in Minna. He noted that the candidates included 44,227 males, making up 52.21 percent, and 40,522 females, accounting for 47.78 percent of the total number.
The results were released 62 days after the conclusion of the last examination, which covered a total of 29 subjects. Wushishi also provided updates on exam malpractice cases recorded during the 2024 SSCE.
He stated that 6,160 candidates were caught engaging in various forms of malpractice, a significant drop from the 8,518 cases recorded in 2023. This represents a 27.7 percent decline in reported cases.
Additionally, seven supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to misconduct such as poor supervision, lateness, and assisting candidates during the exams. NECO also took disciplinary action against 14 examination centres for engaging in “whole centre” malpractice across nine subjects. These centres are located in Ogun, Oyo, Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi states.
Professor Wushishi warned that any supervisor found guilty of malpractice will not only be blacklisted but will also have their name forwarded to other examination bodies, including the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). He explained that this measure is meant to prevent such individuals from participating in future examinations, ensuring the integrity of the process.
