Ned Nwoko Set To Dump PDP For APC

Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the National Assembly, is set to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC). The move comes amidst allegations of neglect and marginalization by the PDP and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

In an interview with Arise TV, Nwoko’s Director of Communications, Gloria Okolugbo, revealed that the senator had already informed stakeholders, supporters, and constituents in Delta North about his intention to defect.

Okolugbo explained that Nwoko had joined the PDP with a vision to serve the people of Anioma and bring meaningful development to the region. However, she claimed he had faced significant obstacles within the party, including a lack of support and cooperation.

“Senator Nwoko came prepared to serve and deliver the dividends of good governance to Anioma people, but regrettably, he had not enjoyed the cooperation and support of his party, the PDP in pursuit of his vision, even as the only PDP Senator in Delta State,” Okolugbo stated.

She highlighted specific frustrations, such as the PDP’s refusal to support the Okpai Independent Power Project, which aimed to supply electricity to over 60 communities in Delta North, and the Ogwashi-Uku Dam, intended to provide clean water to the region.

According to her, these projects are vital for the development of the area, but PDP’s alleged marginalization made their completion difficult.

Okolugbo also accused the Delta PDP of lacking internal democracy, adding that the senator felt it was pointless to remain in a party where fulfilling his campaign promises was nearly impossible.

She indicated that arrangements for Nwoko’s defection to the APC were nearly complete, causing tension within the PDP in Delta State.

“What I can tell you is that today, Senator Ned Nwoko held a consultative meeting with his constituents to inform them of his interest to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party,” Okolugbo said.

Nwoko’s defection would mean that all three senators from Delta State will belong to the APC, a significant shift that could weaken the PDP’s political influence in the state. Okolugbo pointed out that factionalization within the PDP is one of the main reasons behind the senator’s decision.
