New Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland Receives Staff of Office in Grand Ceremony

Oba Adesuyi Haastrup, on Sunday, was officially inaugurated as the Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijeshaland. The ceremony, held at the entrance of Obokungbusi Town Hall in Ilesa, marked the formal presentation of the Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment to the newly crowned monarch.

The event was a gathering of notable figures, including the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, who personally handed over the Staff of Office to Oba Haastrup.

Among the traditional rulers in attendance were the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Orangun of Ila, Oba Wahab Adedotun; and the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi. Several others, such as the Ataoja of Osogbo and the Orangun of Oke Ila, also graced the occasion, reflecting the importance of the event.

During the presentation, Governor Adeleke urged the new monarch to utilize his global experience and extensive networks to bring meaningful progress to Ijesaland. He also assured the people of the state’s commitment to development initiatives across Osun, especially in Ijesaland.

In his inaugural address, Oba Haastrup expressed a strong determination to unite the people and promote economic growth. Highlighting the importance of vocational skills, he announced plans to establish a technical institute to train artisans and boost local industries.

Declaring a firm stance against land grabbing, the monarch stated, “There shall be zero tolerance for land grabbing in my name and in the name of other persons, no matter how highly placed.” He also unveiled strategies to strengthen agriculture and agro-allied ventures to benefit the community.

Following the ceremony, the Owa Obokun Media Office revealed that Oba Haastrup would enter a seclusion period for traditional rites, with the coronation event scheduled for a later date.

The statement emphasized the monarch’s readiness to foster peace and progress in Ijesaland, stating, “The time for the contest is now over. Let us come together and unite to build a stronger and more prosperous future.”
