New Terror Group Has Emerged In Our State – Deputy Governor Raises Alarm

Sokoto State is facing a new security challenge as Deputy Governor Idris Gobir announced the emergence of a terrorist group known as LAKURAWAS. This alarming development was revealed during a meeting with participants from Course 33 of the National Defence College in Abuja, who were visiting Sokoto for a study tour.

Gobir described LAKURAWAS as a faith-based group that has acquired sophisticated weapons and has been involved in criminal activities across approximately five local government areas within the state. The situation is particularly concerning as Sokoto is already grappling with ongoing banditry. The Deputy Governor highlighted that the threat posed by LAKURAWAS is growing and emphasized the need for a strong response.

“The state government has been working closely with Federal Security Agencies to address numerous security threats to lives and properties of the people of the state,” he said. Gobir outlined various measures the state government is implementing to tackle these security challenges, reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of residents.

The Deputy Governor expressed hope that the insights gained from the study tour will aid authorities in understanding the complexities of the emerging threats and help develop effective solutions to ensure peace and security in the region.
