Newlywed Soldier, Others Killed in Suspected Herdsmen Attack on Benue Community

Suspected herdsmen launched a deadly attack on Ikobi-Ochekwu community in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State late Wednesday night, killing several residents, including a newlywed soldier.

The attack reportedly lasted for several hours, spreading fear among the villagers. According to a resident, Ochofie, the attackers came under the cover of darkness. They moved through the village, firing shots into the air and at homes, which they set on fire. Many people fled in panic, but some were caught in the violence.

The exact number of people killed is still unclear. Many residents are unaccounted for as search efforts continue. “In the early hours of Thursday, two more bodies were discovered in nearby Ijaha, identified as Sani Ngbede and Aduba Paul Ogboyi,” a source told reporters. This discovery added to the toll of victims from the attack.

Among those killed was a soldier who had recently gotten married. His death has brought deep sadness to the community, as he was known and respected. The identities of the other victims have not been officially confirmed by the authorities.
