Niger Govt Warns Against Fake Empowerment Scheme, Urges Caution

The Niger State Government has disassociated itself from an online registration portal circulating on social media, which claims to offer empowerment and agricultural grants to the state’s youth and farmers.

The state has warned the public to exercise caution, describing the platform as a fraudulent scheme orchestrated by unidentified individuals aiming to exploit unsuspecting residents.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abubakar Usman, issued a statement through his spokesperson, Lawal Tanko, calling for vigilance among residents. The statement categorically noted that the government has no connection to the portal and has not initiated any such registration process.

“The attention of the Niger State Government has been drawn to a fraudulent online portal currently circulating on various social media platforms, claiming to be a registration platform for a Niger State Youth Empowerment and Farmers’ Grant Programme,” the statement read.

The SSG clarified that legitimate government initiatives are always communicated through official platforms, such as the state government’s website and verified social media accounts. He further urged residents to report any suspicious links or activities related to the fraudulent scheme to security agencies for prompt action.

The statement also noted the importance of protecting personal information and warned the public against sharing sensitive data on unverified platforms. The government assured residents that any genuine empowerment programme would be properly announced and managed through official channels to ensure transparency and authenticity.
