Niger: Seven Dead in Tragic Road Accident

A devastating road accident along the Bida-Mokwa Road in Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State has claimed seven lives. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the tragic incident, which occurred at Panti, near Bida, at approximately 6:09 PM on Monday.

According to the FRSC’s First Information Report (FIR) from the Kutigi Command, the accident involved two vehicles: a Toyota Corolla with registration number ANW243AH and a white Jack truck with an unidentified registration number.

Reports indicate that the truck was en route from Lagos to Abuja, while the Toyota Corolla was traveling from Batati to Kutigi (Jipkan).

The accident involved nine people, comprising four men and five women. Tragically, seven of them lost their lives, including two men and five women. The remaining two individuals sustained injuries and were promptly attended to.

The FRSC attributed the crash to overspeeding, loss of control, and reckless driving. These factors combined to create a deadly collision, leaving the vehicles heavily damaged. The wreckage of both the Toyota Corolla and the truck is now under the custody of the MTD Kutigi Police Division for further investigation.
