Niger State to Implement N80,000 New Minimum Wage in November, NLC Confirms

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Niger State has announced that all arrangements are in place for the smooth rollout of the new minimum wage of N80,000, which is set to take effect this November. The confirmation comes after an agreement was reached between the Niger State government and the NLC on October 25, 2024. This wage increase is part of the government’s efforts to improve the welfare of its workers.

Abdulkareem Idris Lafene, the Chairman of the NLC in Niger State, made the announcement in Minna, assuring that the payment of the new wage would be fully implemented by the state government as promised. He emphasized that the government was committed to fulfilling this agreement without any delays.

“The payment of the new wage is sacrosanct across the board,” Lafene said. He added that the NLC is working closely with the government to ensure the timely implementation of the new wage structure as initially promised by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.

Lafene also revealed that the new salary table for state workers would soon be made available to the public. He expressed his gratitude to Governor Bago for his commitment to improving the lives of civil servants in the state.

“I want to use this opportunity to applaud Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for his magnanimity towards the welfare of the citizens, especially civil servants,” Lafene remarked. “The labour union will leave no stone unturned to support the state government in its drive to take Niger State to the next level of development.”

In his statement, Lafene further praised the efforts of the state government’s team for their determination in finalizing the agreement. He also called on civil servants in the state to work harder in support of the governor’s vision for a better Niger State.
