The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) successfully helped several hostages escape from bandit strongholds in Zamfara and Kebbi states. These air raids, which were part of a mission known as Operation Farautar Mujiya, caused panic among the bandits, allowing captives to flee to safety.
The NAF operation, carried out by the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma, focused on key bandit camps in both states. This mission was launched based on intelligence reports indicating increased bandit activity in these regions, which have been heavily affected by armed criminal groups.
According to Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information, the strikes were strategically planned to disrupt the operations of these criminal groups.
During the night of November 8, NAF aircraft targeted several known bandit hideouts, including a key area near Sangeko in Zamfara, close to the Kebbi border, as well as a fortified camp around Asola Hill in Tsafe Local Government Area.
This latter camp reportedly served as a base for Ado Aleiro, a prominent figure among the bandits. The strikes were intense, destroying large caches of weapons and weakening the fighters’ ability to launch further attacks.
Many hostages who had been held captive in these locations seized the opportunity to escape amid the confusion caused by the airstrikes. The Nigerian Air Force’s precision and use of advanced technology were instrumental in dealing a significant blow to the bandits’ capabilities, which has brought a sense of relief and security to the affected communities.
Air Commodore Akinboyewa noted, “The strikes caused significant disruption to the bandits’ operations,” Air Commodore Akinboyewa stated, adding that numerous hostages seized the opportunity to escape amidst the ensuing chaos. “This air campaign has not only instilled fear in the bandits but has also brought a renewed sense of hope to the local residents.”
