Nigerian Military Deploys Troops to Combat Lakurawa Terror Group

Lakurawa, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has sent a significant military force to Augie Local Government Area in Kebbi State.

This deployment comes shortly after the Lakurawa group launched a brutal attack on the village of Mera, where over 15 people were killed in the assault.

The recent violence in Mera prompted Kebbi State’s Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, to urgently request federal intervention to help control the escalating violence in the region.

Dr. Idris has been vocal about the urgent need for additional security forces, emphasizing that the rural communities are struggling under the constant threat from armed groups like Lakurawa.

Many residents have been displaced, and their livelihoods, particularly in cattle farming, are severely affected by the ongoing violence and cattle rustling.

Upon their arrival in Kebbi, the troops, well-equipped with armored vehicles and modern weaponry, were received by Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida. The soldiers then proceeded to Mera village, where they engaged in combat with the Lakurawa group. This encounter forced the terrorists to retreat, leaving behind stolen cattle that the soldiers recovered and returned to their rightful owners.

Abdullahi Idris Zuru, the governor’s media aide, highlighted the importance of this deployment, noting that the activities of these new armed groups have drastically disrupted life for residents in the rural areas.

“The governor has pledged to ensure the safety of lives and properties for all Kebbi State citizens, prompting him to seek federal assistance to counter terrorism across the state,” Zuru stated.
