NLC Accuses Fuel Marketers of Overcharging Nigerians, Demands Policy Reforms

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has voiced strong concerns over the rising cost of petrol, claiming that fuel marketers are inflating prices beyond the actual market value.

The NLC asserts that Nigerians are being unfairly charged for petrol, intensifying the financial burden on millions across the country who already face economic hardships.

During a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, the NLC issued a communique, drawing attention to the growing distress caused by current government policies. The union alleges that many policies are deepening poverty and hardship, leaving a significant portion of the population struggling to afford basic necessities.

“Nigerians are being exploited,” the NLC claims, emphasizing that these policies disproportionately impact the poor and vulnerable, making everyday life increasingly unaffordable.

The labor organization is also taking action to address these challenges. It announced that, starting December 1, 2024, state councils where the recently mandated minimum wage has not yet been implemented should begin an indefinite strike.

This directive aims to press both government bodies and employers to take the NLC’s demands seriously, especially regarding fair wages and workers’ rights.
