The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a strong warning that it may launch a nationwide protest in response to worsening living conditions, growing insecurity, and attacks on workers’ rights.
In a statement following its Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting at the 12th June Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the union said the suffering of Nigerian workers and citizens has become unbearable.
It noted that the rising cost of living, job losses, and threats to personal safety are pushing the country to the brink. The NLC added that workers can no longer remain silent while the country’s economy and democracy continue to decline.
Calling for immediate intervention, the Congress said urgent steps must be taken to prevent further hardship and chaos. It urged the government to act swiftly or face mass action from frustrated and struggling Nigerian workers.
