NNPC Denies Claims in Viral Video Comparing Petrol Quality

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has dismissed allegations circulating in a viral social media video that its petrol is of lower quality compared to that of Dangote Refinery. The state-owned oil company described the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Saturday, NNPC’s Chief Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, refuted the assertions made in the video, stating that they were based on unverified and amateur research.

The video featured a man conducting a “comparison test” between petrol allegedly bought from NNPC and Dangote outlets, claiming that the fuel from Dangote Refinery lasted 30 minutes longer. However, Soneye rejected the claim, calling it baseless and lacking professional oversight.

“NNPC Ltd reaffirms that its fuel is carefully formulated with one of the best compositions, ensuring optimal efficiency, durability, and environmental sustainability for consumers,” the statement read.

He further noted that a significant percentage of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold at NNPC retail stations in Lagos, where the video was reportedly recorded, is sourced from Dangote Refinery. He emphasized that the refinery adheres to strict industry standards, ensuring the quality of petroleum products supplied to Nigerians.

Soneye described the video as a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and damage NNPC’s reputation. “This misleading video represents yet another desperate attempt by economic saboteurs to misinform the public and tarnish NNPC Ltd’s reputation,” he said.

The company also warned that it will take legal action against individuals or groups spreading false information about its operations. “Henceforth, NNPC Ltd will take firm legal action against individuals or groups who intentionally spread falsehoods about our brand and operations,” Soneye stated.
