No Approval for 10,000 Workers’ Recruitment – Rivers Administrator

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), has publicly denied the claim that he had authorized the employment of 10,000 new civil servants.

The rumor, which spread rapidly across social media platforms earlier this week, falsely stated that a large-scale recruitment drive had been approved and that an official portal would be opening on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

In response to the misinformation, Dr. Inyingi Brown, who currently serves as the Acting Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, issued a statement on Thursday from Port Harcourt. She made it clear that the circulating message was untrue and urged members of the public to disregard it.

The viral announcement, allegedly linked to the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibibia Worika, claimed the state had authorized thousands of new jobs within the civil service sector. However, Dr. Brown pointed out that the statement was not only unauthorized but also falsely attributed to state officials.

“We wish to categorically inform the people of Rivers State and the general public to ignore the fake announcement,” the official statement read. “Appropriate information will be released by the Rivers State Civil Service Commission when it falls due.”

Dr. Brown further noted that any legitimate communication about civil service recruitment would be formally issued by the appropriate government agencies and not through unconfirmed online messages or social media posts.

She also reminded the public to be vigilant and cautious about online scams and false information, especially those involving promises of employment.

According to her, the government is not conducting any employment exercise at this time, and when it chooses to do so, the announcement will be made through proper channels such as government bulletins, official press releases, and the state’s recognized websites.
