The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has responded to media reports regarding the ongoing dispute within the Labour Party (LP), confirming that no decisions have been made yet regarding the matter.
According to the commission, certain reports that claimed INEC had recognized specific individuals as the National Chairman and National Secretary of the LP are inaccurate.
INEC made the clarification in a statement issued by Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, which followed widespread media speculation.
The statement reads: “The names of the National Officers of the LP had previously been uploaded to our website following a court order, not related in any way to the latest judgement of the Supreme Court,” the statement signed by Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, said.
“In the same manner, the name of the National Secretary of the PDP on the same website was neither deleted nor reinstated.
“As a law-abiding institution, the Commission is carefully studying the judgement of the Supreme Court on the Labour Party and will communicate its decision to the public in due course,” the statement added.
