No Favoured Candidate for Anambra Governorship – Abure

The Labour Party (LP) has promised a transparent and fair selection process for its governorship candidate ahead of the November election in Anambra State.

The party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, gave this assurance while receiving Dr. George Moghalu, a former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.

Moghalu had visited to submit his completed expression of interest and nomination forms for the LP primary election scheduled for April 5. During the meeting, Abure made it clear that he does not support any particular aspirant and that all candidates will have an equal chance to secure the party’s ticket.

“I want you to take it to the bank that it is the people of Anambra and more precisely, LP members that will determine who flies the party ticket,” Abure stated.

He urged Moghalu to engage directly with party members in Anambra since they would be the ones to decide the candidate. Abure also dismissed any possibility of favoritism, stating that no aspirant would receive special treatment.

“I want to say without any equivocation that there will not be godfatherism and we have no anointed aspirant, and the process will not be skewed towards an aspirant, and I assure you again that the process will be free, fair and credible,” he added.

Abure also noted Moghalu’s experience and credentials, saying the party welcomes individuals with strong integrity and leadership qualities.

In his response, Moghalu expressed his appreciation to the party leadership for the opportunity to contest. He vowed to give his best in the race, promising not to disappoint the party.

“Mr Chairman, I assure you that I will not let you down. I am going into this race, the governorship of our State, with the determination to win the election, and we shall win by the grace of God,” he declared.

He also acknowledged that power comes from God, saying, “What we have done is to make ourselves available and for God to make the decision.”
