Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo has pledged that no citizen of the state should go to bed hungry under his leadership. He made this commitment while launching the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Food Outreach Programme in Lokoja on Monday.
The governor noted that his administration is fully committed to improving food security in the state. He stated that while Kogi will support the Federal Government’s intervention, the state will also expand its own quarterly food distribution programme to assist more vulnerable households.
“Under our watch, no Kogi citizen should go to bed hungry,” Ododo said. He described the Food Outreach Programme as a much-needed effort that aligns with the state’s goal of helping residents struggling with economic challenges.
Governor Ododo urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration, assuring them that Kogi State will continue to align with the Federal Government’s economic recovery and social welfare programmes.
Speaking at the event, Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President, who represented First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, stressed the importance of ensuring that food items reach those who need them most. She cautioned against reselling the supplies and encouraged beneficiaries to use them for their well-being.
“This initiative is not just about food; it is about restoring dignity, giving hope, and providing relief to the most vulnerable among us,” she stated.
She also noted that the RHI Food Outreach Programme has already reached citizens in multiple states, with plans to expand further. According to her, the programme includes additional initiatives such as financial grants for People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs), climate change awareness campaigns for students, and the ‘Flow with Confidence’ project, which provides sanitary products to young girls in rural areas to support their education.
Kogi State First Lady and RHI State Coordinator, Safinat Ododo, praised the First Lady’s efforts in assisting the less privileged. She reaffirmed the commitment of Kogi women to national development and promised to work closely with communities to address their challenges.
