No Plan by Kwankwaso, Others to Defect to APC – NNPP

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has firmly denied any intention by its 2023 presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), putting to rest ongoing rumors of a possible switch in party allegiance.

The state chairman of the NNPP, Hashimu Dungurawa, made this clear during a media interaction in Kano, where he addressed the rising speculations surrounding Kwankwaso and other top NNPP figures allegedly planning to cross over to the ruling APC.

Dungurawa described the rumors as baseless and politically motivated, insisting that the NNPP remains united and focused on its goals. “Definitely, we (NNPP) don’t have that interest, intention and we see them (APC party) as enemy of democracy,” Dungurawa said, noting that the APC’s leadership has failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians.

He further added that the performance of the APC in recent elections shows a steady decline in public support. “Look at where they led us to today in the country. They don’t know people are looking for situation to teach them a lesson, meaning the day of election. Everyday, there vote is diminishing. In 2015, they had almost 20 million votes. In 2019, they score 16 million votes while in 2023, it was 8 million votes,” he stated.

Dungurawa also noted that the NNPP is not in any discussions or negotiations with the APC, and there are no secret moves being made behind the scenes.

This denial follows comments made by Kano APC chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, who had earlier described the alleged defection of Kwankwaso as a “welcome development,” though he attached conditions to such a move.

Despite those remarks, Dungurawa has made it clear that the NNPP is not interested in aligning with a party he believes has disappointed the Nigerian people.
