The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that all road construction projects started under his leadership will be completed.
This assurance came on Wednesday during the official flag-off of the Akure-Idanre Road dualisation project at the Arakale-Oke-Aro Junction in the state capital, Akure.
According to Governor Aiyedatiwa, the launch of the 10-kilometre road project is a fulfillment of one of his key campaign promises. He noted that his administration is focused on transforming Ondo State’s infrastructure to improve living conditions and support economic growth.
“This project stands as a powerful testimony to the resolve of our administration to build an Ondo State where opportunities are not just promised but are accessible, a place where every citizen can thrive in an environment of progress and shared prosperity,” he said.
The governor explained that the Akure-Idanre Road is vital to the economic structure of the state, describing it as a route long burdened by traffic congestion and inefficiencies that affect daily commuters and farmers transporting goods. “For what has seemed like an eternity, this road has been a source of daily frustration for commuters and a bottleneck for the movement of agricultural produce from Idanre to Akure’s markets. Today, we begin to change that story,” he stated.
The dual carriageway is designed to include modern traffic signals, solar-powered streetlights, and a wide 28-metre structure to accommodate heavy vehicles. Aiyedatiwa linked the project to his government’s “OUR EASE” agenda, a 7-point development plan aimed at improving infrastructure, creating jobs, and boosting tourism, especially to sites like the famous Idanre Hills.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing, Olawoye Abiola, also spoke at the event. He noted that the road project is a strategic step towards easing transportation and enhancing safety across the region. According to him, the governor’s approach is one that focuses on meaningful and lasting development.
Abiola further said that the construction would follow strict quality controls and would be completed within the scheduled timeframe, assuring residents that the new road would serve both current and future needs.
