The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed a total of 1,531 officers across Anambra State in preparation for President Bola Tinubu’s scheduled visit on Thursday.
This major security operation is being coordinated from the NSCDC state headquarters in Awka, following a high-level meeting between the state commandant and senior officers.
Commandant Olatunde Maku, who is in charge of NSCDC operations in the state, noted that the deployment covers both personnel from Anambra and reinforcements from neighboring states, including Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, and Delta.
These officers will work alongside other security agencies to ensure a smooth and safe visit for the President.
Maku said the collaborative effort will focus on securing major infrastructure, public locations, and important government properties across Anambra. The operation involves a mix of visible presence and behind-the-scenes intelligence gathering, with covert surveillance teams and joint security patrols already active throughout the state.
According to him, “The NSCDC in collaboration with other sister security agencies has intensified covert surveillance, increased joint operations, including raids on criminal hideouts as well as confidence-building patrols within the state, reinforcing the readiness of security agencies to emplace a secure environment throughout the high-profile visit.”
Personnel will be stationed at key sites including airports, government offices, bridges, parks, markets, and vital utility locations such as power stations and telecom infrastructure. Specific areas like Solution Fun City, a local recreation hub, will also have security presence before, during, and after the President’s stop.
He said, “Our personnel would be positioned in strategic locations including the airport, bridges, government buildings, parks, markets, electricity substations, telecommunication facilities, Solution Fun City facilities, and other sensitive locations across the state before, during and after the visit.”
The NSCDC is also handling crowd control along the presidential convoy route. Officers will serve as a human shield to keep the roads clear and manage access points where the President is expected to pass.
“NSCDC personnel will be part of the human shield against the crowd obstructing the free-flow of the President’s entourage on the mapped out routes, in addition to access control of some locations,” he stated.
