A nurse has been taken into custody following the death of a 36-year-old woman, identified as Mrs. Abiola, who sought a buttocks enlargement procedure. The arrest was confirmed by the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, during a briefing with the press on Wednesday.
The incident came to light when a report was made by the deceased’s driver to the Maroko Police Division on Tuesday around 11:40 a.m. The driver stated that early Monday morning, at about 3:00 a.m., his employer, Mrs. Abiola, who resided in Diamond Estate, Sangotedo-Lekki, instructed him to take her to a clinic in Lekki Phase 1 for a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) injection.
Upon their arrival at the clinic, the owner reportedly directed a nurse to administer the procedure. Shortly after the injection, Mrs. Abiola began to experience severe difficulty breathing and eventually became unconscious.
The clinic, noticing the woman’s deteriorating condition, rushed her to another hospital within Lekki Phase 1. However, despite the medical team’s efforts, Mrs. Abiola was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
Following the driver’s report, a team of detectives visited both the initial clinic and the hospital where the woman was declared dead. The police conducted a thorough inspection and took photographs of the scene. Mrs. Abiola’s body was later transferred to a public morgue for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin further mentioned that the nurse involved in the procedure has been detained, and a full investigation is currently underway to uncover more details surrounding the tragic incident.
