The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, has dismissed allegations made against him by his former Head of Service, Dr. George Nweke. Fubara claims that Nweke has been influenced, either financially or through coercion, to spread falsehoods about him.
In a statement released in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Fubara urged the public to ignore Nweke’s accusations, which were made during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday. He strongly refuted the claims, calling them baseless and politically motivated.
Fubara stated, “Ordinarily, I would not have responded to his claims, but to correct the erroneous impression such allegations may create in the minds of the people, and the disaffection it is bound to cause in the state and the country.”
One of the accusations Nweke made was that Fubara had meetings and discussions to support Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s alleged 2027 presidential bid. In response, Fubara dismissed the claim as laughable, questioning how Nweke, as Head of Service, would have been part of high-level political meetings.
He noted that the visit of Governor Bala Mohammed to Rivers State was public knowledge, as it was in his capacity as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum.
Fubara also rejected allegations that he encouraged attacks on oil pipelines and other national assets in Rivers State. He stated that he has never engaged in any meeting with militants or criminal groups to destabilize the state. Instead, he said he has always advocated for peace, even during challenging times.
“The truth is that Dr. Nweke has been compromised, and whatever he is saying is only aimed at fulfilling his promise to those who may have paid or coerced him to lie against me,” Fubara said.
He urged the public to disregard Nweke’s statements, describing them as an attempt to damage his reputation and disrupt the peace efforts led by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
