The absence of several major political figures raised eyebrows on Saturday as Senator Ned Nwoko hosted an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders meeting at his country home in Idumuje-Ugboko, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Notable politicians missing from the gathering included former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, and former House of Representatives member Ndudi Elumelu. Their non-appearance comes amid growing tension over party leadership in Delta North since the trio defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Despite the absence of these top figures, the meeting pulled a significant crowd of party elders, youth leaders, supporters, and stakeholders from across Delta North. The focus of the gathering was to strengthen party unity and lay down strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Senator Nwoko used the event to renew his push for the creation of Anioma State. He noted that plans are well underway, and a technical committee will soon be set up in Asaba to support the process.
He said, “We are on course. The technical committee will be inaugurated in Asaba to help me work towards actualising the creation of Anioma State.
”If you were at Agbor during the APC stakeholders gathering, you heard when the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Umar Ganduje, said the creation of Anioma State is a done deal.
”We have taken all the steps in the Senate. As of today, 75 senators are supporting Anioma State.
“We have moved from the committee stage of the process to a public hearing coming up in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Thereafter, we will come back to the Senate for the third reading of the bill for the creation of Anioma State.
“By next month, I will commence a visitation tour of all nine local government areas in Delta North to showcase my development achievements for the past two years, especially in areas of road construction in the senatorial district, many motions and bills in the Red Chamber.
“My priority still remains the completion of the Ogwashi-Ukwu multi-purpose dam, and the national grid step down at Okpai for light. I know that when we have light and water, everybody willbe happy”
