Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa made his first public appearance following his recent arrest and release by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Okowa joined Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at a memorial service held in honor of Mrs. Victoria Ossai Obielum, the late mother of prominent politician Godwill Obielum. The service took place on Wednesday at the Obielum family residence in Asaba, Delta State.
Okowa, who was detained by the EFCC on November 4, 2024, faced allegations linked to an N1.3 trillion fraud case. Although he was released on Friday, authorities seized his passport as part of the ongoing investigation.
Okowa’s public appearance at the ceremony drew attention, as it marked his first outing since the EFCC encounter.
The event was well-attended by notable figures, including Delta State’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Solomon Arenyenka, along with other members of the party’s state executive committee. Numerous political dignitaries, as well as current and retired security officers, also paid their respects at the memorial.
Delivering a heartfelt sermon, Pastor Ifeanyi Ogude from Heaven Bound Christian International Church Ministry highlighted the importance of leading a meaningful life dedicated to serving both God and humanity.
Emphasizing the unpredictability of life, he reminded attendees, “Nobody knows when death will come, and as such, people should be prepared by living a good life and leaving worthy legacies behind, as they will be remembered for what they did.”
Mrs. Victoria Ossai Obielum, who passed away at the age of 87 on June 20, 2024, will be laid to rest on November 16, 2024, at the Obielum family home in Ushie, Ndokwa East Local Government Area.
