Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Monday signed into law a bill that establishes the Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology.
The bill, signed at the Government House in Benin City, marks a major step toward boosting the healthcare and education sectors in the state. The new institution will be located in Udomi, Uwessan, and is expected to bring significant economic growth and development to the area.
Okpebholo, while signing the bill into law, noted the consistent partnership between the executive and legislative arms in the state. He said this collaboration has helped fast-track several key developments for Edo people.
“Let me congratulate the Edo State House of Assembly for this bill they recently passed and have now brought to my office today for assent,” he said. “I am most grateful for the kind of cooperation I am receiving from the Legislative arm. I also want to let you know that the Edo people are happy with what we are doing and how we are working together in harmony.”
He further noted that the establishment of the college is a response to long-standing calls from the people of Udomi. He described the move as a “dream come true” for the community and a chance for his administration to leave a lasting legacy.
The new college is expected to not only offer healthcare-related education but also generate employment and attract infrastructure development to Esan Central and surrounding areas.
“This is an opportunity for us to showcase our administration and it’s a laudable project to be carried out in Edo State,” Okpebholo stated.
The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, led members of the legislature to witness the signing. Agbebaku expressed appreciation to the governor for acting quickly on developmental initiatives.
He said, “Members of the 8th House of Assembly are in your office today. Last Month, a letter was sent to us in the EDHA in pursuit of your developmental stride, a law was sent to us in the house to enact Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology Law, Udomi, 2025 and other matters connected therewith.”
