Ondo Poly Final Year Student Found Dead, Police Begins Investigation

The Ondo State Police Command on Monday confirmed the death of a final-year student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, who was reported to have taken his own life.

The student, identified as Arobo Precious, was in his final year studying for a Higher National Diploma (HND II).

His lifeless body was discovered last week in a bushy area close to where he lived in Owo, a quiet community in Ondo State.

Residents in the area were shocked by the tragic event, which has since sparked discussions both online and in the town.

According to a source close to the situation, Arobo had earlier posted a video online. The content and message in the video hinted that he was going through emotional pain.

Many who saw the video believe the young man was affected by a personal issue, possibly a broken relationship, which might have pushed him over the edge.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Olayinka Alayande, confirmed that the case had been reported to the authorities.

He noted that officers from the B Division Police Station in Owo responded to the report immediately after it was received around 10:00 p.m. on June 18, 2025.

“Yes, I can confirm to you that a case of suicide was reported at about 2200hrs on the 18th of June, 2025 at the B Division Police Station Owo and upon the receipt of the information the DPO team of detective to the scene of the said incident where a lifeless body of a young man of about 27yrs was found with a rope believed to have been used in the commission of suicide on his neck.”

“The body was subsequently removed and deposited at the Federal Medical Centre’s morgue for preservation and autopsy,” the PPRO said.

The management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic has not yet made a public statement about the incident, but students on campus have been seen mourning the loss of their classmate. Some have called on the school and government to do more to support students facing emotional challenges.

Meanwhile, the police have started a full investigation to understand the full story behind Arobo’s death.
