Ondo Workers to Receive New Minimum Wage Next Week, Says NLC

The Acting Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ondo State, Mr. Ademola Olapade, has assured civil servants in the state that the new minimum wage will be included in their November salaries.

Olapade shared this update on Sunday while addressing journalists in Akure regarding the proposed nationwide strike by the NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The national strike, scheduled to begin on December 1, was called in response to delays by some state governments in implementing the agreed minimum wage.

However, Olapade clarified that Ondo State would not participate in the industrial action since the state government has already finalized plans to pay the new wage.

“We are not going to join the strike in Ondo State because, on our side, we have concluded arrangements with the state government.

“The payment was supposed to commence last week but was delayed due to a sliding error which had been corrected.

“So, by the grace of God, workers in Ondo State including the Local Government (LG) workers will start receiving their November salary with the minimum wage by next week,” Olapade said.

He, therefore, reiterated the union’s commitment to ensure that workers welfare continues to be paramount to the union.

Recall that Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Oct. 14, 2024 announced N73,000 as a new minimum wage for all civil servants in Ondo.

Aiyedatiwa had also said that the new minimum wage would be implemented from November, 2024.
