One Dead, Three Injured After Truck Rams Minibus in Lagos

A tragic accident unfolded early Sunday morning on Old Ipaja Road near Agbotikuyo, Lagos, when a large truck crushed a commercial minibus, locally known as a Korope. The crash resulted in the death of the minibus driver and left three passengers injured.

The incident happened around 9 a.m. when a fully loaded 40-foot Mack container truck, with registration number MUS 729 XY, reportedly suffered brake failure. The truck lost control and slammed into the minibus, which was heading toward Iyana Ipaja in the Alimosho area. The driver of the minibus was killed instantly as the truck toppled onto the vehicle.

This accident follows another collision just two days prior involving two BRT buses at Cement Bus Stop in Alimosho, where several passengers, including a media worker, were taken to hospital.

Confirming the latest crash, Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser on Transportation to the Lagos State Governor, expressed sympathy for the family of the deceased. He noted the swift response of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officers who arrived quickly at the scene.

He said, “This devastating crash occurred on Sunday, June 22, 2025. The truck lost control due to brake failure and toppled onto the minibus, killing the driver instantly. LASTMA officers responded immediately and rescued three injured passengers — two women and one man — who were handed to medical responders for treatment.”
