One-Party State: We Didn’t Force Anyone to Join APC – Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has responded to critics who claim his government is steering Nigeria towards a one-party state, saying that political association is a matter of personal choice and no one is being compelled to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during the APC National Summit at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu addressed concerns raised about the growing strength of the APC and the increasing number of politicians switching allegiance to the ruling party.

According to the President, there is nothing wrong with people choosing to join a political movement that aligns with their vision and aspirations.

“It is only one party that is ruling,” Tinubu said. “For those still contemplating bale out of their ship, the country is yours, hold on to it. For those talking about one party system. It is one party ruling and driving the aspiration of Nigeria. You don’t blame a people balling out of a shrinking ship when they have no life jackets.”

He noted that no individual or group is forced to remain in a party that no longer reflects their goals or beliefs. He added that the APC is open to receiving more Nigerians who are genuinely interested in joining and contributing to the party’s objectives.

“They think this political party is a failure, but with your perseverance, we never gave up. We are the Progressives. We will soldier on. Continue to work hard… I listen to you, not them,” the President said.

Tinubu also urged party members to remain steadfast, even when political rewards are not immediate. “We have an opportunity to make Africa great, but I urge you to stay the course. To those I cannot offer political positions, be patient, you will be happy to belong to this party,” he said.
