Osun State Working on New Minimum Wage Implementation – Governor Adeleke

The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, announced on Saturday that his administration has started developing a plan for the implementation of the new minimum wage for state workers. This was disclosed during the grand finale of the 14th Convocation Ceremony of Osun State University, held at the institution’s main campus in Osogbo.

Governor Adeleke highlighted that his administration recognizes the financial burden placed on workers following the removal of the fuel subsidy and emphasized that his government is working to alleviate the strain this has caused on public sector employees. The governor reassured state workers that they would not be left to bear the weight of these economic changes alone.

“We are currently working on the modalities for the implementation of the newly approved minimum wage,” said Adeleke. He also mentioned that the state had previously taken steps to support workers by promptly paying a year’s worth of salary arrears and offering palliative allowances to ease the financial burden caused by rising fuel prices.

In addition to discussing workers’ welfare, Adeleke talked about the state’s efforts in supporting the growth of Osun State University. Over the last year, his administration has funded several key projects at the university, including the completion of an office complex at the Isale-Osun campus. This development was vital for the accreditation of health-related programs at the institution.

“We have also supported the university towards the construction of its ultra-modern Anatomy Complex, which we commissioned earlier today,” said Adeleke. Furthermore, he shared that road construction projects near student areas, such as the Sasha Market, and other campuses are underway to improve access and infrastructure.

The governor concluded his speech by urging the staff and students of the university to remain dedicated to their responsibilities and work towards the advancement of the institution. He stressed the importance of maintaining a peaceful and harmonious environment, avoiding unnecessary conflicts that could hinder progress.

“To the parents and guardians gathered here today, I urge you not to completely let go of your children as they step into the next phase of their lives,” he added, emphasizing the need for continued support as graduates enter the workforce.
