Otti Mourns as One Dies, Eight Injured in Abia JTF Crash

A tragic road accident involving the Abia State Joint Task Force (JTF), known as “Operation Crush,” has claimed the life of one security personnel while leaving eight others injured. The incident happened on Sunday night at Isieke Junction along the Umuahia-Bende road.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abia State, Ngozi Ezeoma, confirmed the accident on Monday, explaining that the crash was caused by brake failure. The vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a ditch, leading to the fatality and injuries.

Ezeoma noted, “The fatal crash occurred Sunday night at Isieke junction along the Umuahia-Bende road, where the vehicle veered off the road and fell into a ditch due to brake failure. Before FRSC could arrive at the scene, the police had already moved the injured to the Federal Medical Center, Umuahia, for treatment.”

She further stated that the injured officers—who include members of the Nigerian Army, Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)—are receiving medical care at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia. The deceased has been taken to the morgue.

In response to the incident, Governor Alex Otti has expressed deep sorrow over the loss. He extended his condolences to the leadership of the State Joint Security Command and the family of the deceased officer.

The governor assured that the state government is covering the medical expenses of the injured personnel to ensure they receive the best treatment available.

According to a statement from the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, “Governor Otti while condoling with the Joint Command and the family of the deceased Officer, assured that his government would ensure that the injured ones receive the best of medical attention to ensure they recuperate as quickly as possible.”
