Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has shared a personal story as he celebrated the 75th birthday of his wife, Titi Abubakar. He revealed that their marriage, which has now lasted more than five decades, started without the support of their parents.
In a heartfelt Facebook post on Saturday, Atiku shared how their union began in a way that defied the wishes of both families. Despite the disapproval, the couple chose to go ahead with their marriage with only two close friends by their side.
“Titi and I got married against our parents’ wishes in the most daring way, with no family members, with only two friends,” Atiku wrote.
He noted that even though they started off without family blessings, their marriage has stood strong for over 50 years. According to him, Titi has played a key role in both his personal and family life. He described her as a blessing and praised her strength and patience throughout their journey together.
“Atiku wrote, ‘Titi has been a blessing beyond measure to me and our family,’” showing how deeply he appreciates her support over the years.
He also spoke about how they started calling each other “Mummy” and “Daddy,” a sign of their closeness and the strong bond they share. Atiku noted the importance of patience in marriage and thanked his wife for showing it even during difficult times.
“I thank her for being patient with my shortcomings. Patience is a virtue you can never regret. I encourage spouses to continue to be patient with each other,” he said.
Atiku ended his message with warm wishes for Titi, saying, “I wish Titi many more years of bliss and blessings.”
