More than 5,000 members from different political parties have left their parties to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State. The defectors, who were previously with the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP), cited dissatisfaction with their former parties as the main reason for their decision.
During the official defection event on Monday, several political leaders who led the movement, including Onah Idoko Alexander, John Adole, Engr. Adegbo Moses, Mike Ejeba, Ocheme Candidus, and Abah Ejeh, openly criticized the APC for what they described as a failure in governance. They noted that the ruling party has not been able to properly handle security issues in the state, both at the federal and state levels.
The defectors praised Senator Abba Moro for his contributions to the development of Benue South, describing him as a leader who has made a positive impact on many communities in the district. They stated their reasons for switching parties, saying, “We are defecting to your party from several political parties because of the quality leadership and representation you are providing in the Senate. You have touched almost every community in Benue South, and we have realized that there is no leader like you.”
Senator Moro, who was visibly pleased with the large turnout, welcomed the new members into the PDP and assured them that they would have the same rights and opportunities as existing members. He reaffirmed his commitment to providing good leadership and representation to ensure the progress of Benue South.
