Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, has passed away at the age of 85. Palace insiders confirmed that the respected monarch died on Wednesday following a brief illness, though an official statement from the palace has yet to be released.

Reports from palace sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, indicate that the community is awaiting the formal announcement of Oba Aromolaran’s passing.

Despite the lack of an official statement, traditional rites associated with the death of a monarch in Ijesaland have already commenced at the palace, which has served as a strong indication of the sad news.

“Baba has passed, but we are waiting for the official announcement from the palace,” said one palace source. The traditional rites are typically conducted before the official declaration of the demise of any Owa Obokun of Ijesaland.

Security around the palace has been intensified with the deployment of additional personnel to maintain order and ensure safety during this sensitive period.

The community is in a state of mourning, as residents reflect on the life and legacy of Oba Aromolaran, who served as a unifying figure and a custodian of Ijesaland’s rich cultural heritage.

Oba Aromolaran ascended the throne in 1982 and was known for his dedication to the progress of Ijesaland. He played a significant role in fostering peace and development in the region during his reign.
