Popular Delta State politician and former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Great Ogboru, has described the recent mass defection of key Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) figures to the APC as a landmark development in Delta State’s political scene.
According to him, the shift signals a broader change in the political direction of not only the state but the country at large.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Warri and shared with journalists, Ogboru expressed confidence that this political realignment would bring positive results. He noted that the decision of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, along with his predecessor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and other prominent PDP members, to join the APC represents what he called “a turning point in our State’s political history.”
“This is a defining moment for Delta State and Nigeria,” Ogboru stated in his message, adding that the realignment will pave the way for “greater collaboration, impactful governance and a more inclusive political process.”
Ogboru, who has long been a significant player in Delta politics, said the timing and scale of the defections are historic. He pointed out that the move brings Delta State closer to the central government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, opening new possibilities for infrastructure growth, policy alignment, and development programs.
“I welcome His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, former Governor of Delta State, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa and other political heavyweights of PDP to the Delta APC. I congratulate them on this decision for our great party, the APC,” Ogboru noted.
He stressed that the shift in allegiance shows a collective readiness to support Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and contribute actively to its success. According to him, with Delta State now aligning politically with the federal government, the people stand to benefit from improved governance and increased investment in human capital and infrastructure.
Ogboru added that the coming together of political leaders under the APC banner could help bridge divides in the state and spark unity among previously separated factions.
“Together we will build the Delta State of our dreams and write a new chapter in Delta State’s political history. Together, we shall steer the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to greater heights. Together, we will work tirelessly to achieve greatness for Delta State and Nigeria.”
