Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will hold a key meeting today, Sunday, April 13, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, to take a decisive position on the status of the party’s National Secretary and the long-delayed National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The meeting comes just weeks after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Senator Samuel Anyanwu, reinstating him as the PDP’s National Secretary. This decision overturned the earlier judgment of the Court of Appeal, which had upheld Anyanwu’s removal in favor of Sunday Ude-Okoye.
The ruling has caused confusion within the party, with both Anyanwu and Ude-Okoye releasing separate statements claiming victory.
A reliable party insider told Sunday PUNCH that today’s meeting will address this issue head-on. The governors are expected to weigh the Supreme Court’s ruling and consider its impact on the party’s future direction. Also on the agenda are the ongoing leadership crisis in the South-South region, the state of emergency declared in Rivers State, and tensions within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
“The meeting is very crucial. The governors are expected to be frank with each other, discuss issues, and take proactive steps to preserve the PDP,” the source noted. “They must decide on critical issues in that meeting to save the party, as many members are tired of the prolonged crises.”
The PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, confirmed that the governors’ forum would meet between Sunday and Monday in Ibadan.
