Governors elected under The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have issued a stern warning against any presidential interference in the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.
During a meeting held in Enugu, the governors also criticized the federal government led by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its poor performance and lauded the PDP governors for their innovative development projects.
The meeting saw the participation of 12 out of the 13 PDP governors, who collectively expressed their support for the embattled Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State. They also emphasized the need for a swift negotiation of a new minimum wage.
Senator Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State and chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, presented the communique at the conclusion of the meeting. He stated that the governors advised all political parties to ensure that their campaigns are focused on issues, free from violence, and in full compliance with the Electoral Act.
The communique read: “The Forum urges the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide a level playing field that guarantees transparent, fair and unimpeachable elections as any act of bias will be totally resisted.
“The Forum also urges Mr. President to show leadership as a true democrat by refraining from making any statement suggestive of political interference in the entire process,” the communique read in part.
