The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, under the leadership of Edwin Woko, has expressed satisfaction with the Court of Appeal’s recent ruling that removed Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary.
The judgment, delivered on Friday in Enugu, confirmed an earlier High Court decision that invalidated Anyanwu’s position and recognized Ude Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary.
Justice Ridwan Abdullahi, in delivering the verdict, emphasized that Anyanwu’s selection as the PDP governorship candidate violated the party’s constitution. Consequently, the court dismissed Anyanwu’s appeal as groundless.
Reacting to the ruling, Edwin Woko issued a statement on Saturday, describing the judgment as the conclusion of Anyanwu’s “political gambling in the PDP.”
He further urged party members across the country to unite in rebuilding the PDP into a formidable opposition force, especially during what he described as challenging times under the APC-led Federal Government.
Woko also aligned with the PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and other leaders in advocating for the immediate nomination of a new National Chairman to replace Iyorchia Ayu. He called on members from the North Central zone to prioritize this responsibility, referencing Section 47(6) of the party’s constitution.
Highlighting the urgency, Woko stated, “We remember vividly that one of the top agendas of the PDP Board of Trustees’s meeting held on the 5th of December 2024 was to charge the people of the North Central of our great party PDP to make haste and select someone from the zone for Iyorcha Ayu’s replacement.”
