PDP in Emergency Caucus Meeting Over NEC

The caucus of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gathered urgently in Abuja on Monday as uncertainty surrounds the scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting set for Tuesday.

The emergency gathering was called after unexpected developments threw the party’s earlier plans into disarray. Initially, the PDP leadership had lined up a series of meetings to hold before the NEC session.

The schedule included a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting on Monday morning, followed by the Board of Trustees (BoT) and PDP Governors’ meetings. These sessions were meant to build consensus ahead of the NEC.

However, the entire arrangement was disrupted when officials from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), reportedly acting on the instruction of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, sealed the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

The sudden closure of the headquarters raised concerns and triggered a quick response from top leaders within the party.

Efforts made by some of Wike’s allies to delay the NEC meeting reportedly failed. In response, key members of the party decided to hold a late-night caucus meeting to address the growing tensions and decide the next steps.

Those at the meeting included PDP Governors, NWC members, BoT representatives, and other important figures in the party. They met behind closed doors to discuss how to handle the unexpected closure and whether the NEC meeting could still proceed under the circumstances.

A party insider noted that the leadership is determined not to let internal divisions or external pressure derail its scheduled activities. “We are aware of what is going on and we are addressing it internally,” the source told DAILY TRUST.

As of late Monday night, there was no official statement from the PDP on whether the NEC meeting would hold as planned. However, discussions during the caucus were reportedly focused on how to resolve the conflict peacefully and maintain unity within the party.
