PDP Now in ICU, Faces a 50-50 Chance of Survival – Suswam

Former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam has compared the current state of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to that of a patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), warning that the major opposition party is struggling for survival amid deep internal divisions.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Tuesday, Suswam painted a grim picture of the party’s internal situation, suggesting that the PDP is on life support due to unresolved conflicts and weakening unity within its ranks.

He noted that the PDP’s chances of recovery are currently “50-50.”

His remarks come shortly after a surprising appearance by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at an expanded PDP Governors’ Forum meeting held in Abuja. Wike’s return to the party’s gathering marks his first formal involvement in months, following ongoing tension and rumors of his political disengagement from the party.

While Wike’s presence sparked reactions across political circles, Suswam remains cautious about interpreting it as a turning point for the struggling party. He believes that although the situation is critical, there is still hope for recovery — but only if key actors within the PDP act with urgency and sincerity.

He noted, “It is incumbent upon the PDP governors to ensure that the party is rescued. Many people are waiting to see the ultimate end of the party. Whether there will be light at the end of the tunnel through the intervention of Sen. Saraki remains to be seen in the coming days. For now, the PDP is in the hospital, currently in the ICU, but it can be saved if the proper medicines are taken.”
