PDP Shifts NEC Meeting as Saraki-Led Committee Continues Reconciliation Efforts

The Peoples Democratic Party has postponed its much-anticipated 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting originally set for May 27, 2025. The announcement came as internal efforts to restore unity within the party gained momentum under the guidance of a reconciliation committee led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

According to an official statement signed by the PDP National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, the postponement is aimed at giving the reconciliation panel enough time to complete its task. “The above subject refers. This is to formally inform leaders and members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great party that the proposed NEC meeting earlier announced to take place on May 27, 2025, has been postponed,” the statement noted.

The party stressed that this decision is meant to ensure that the NEC meeting is held in a peaceful atmosphere. The reconciliation committee, headed by Saraki, has been working to resolve disputes among key figures in the party, with the goal of restoring order and cooperation within its ranks. A new date for the meeting will be announced soon, in line with the party’s constitution and the 2022 Electoral Act.

The party also issued a warning to members to ignore any conflicting notices allegedly issued by unauthorized officials. “Therefore, any notice of NEC meeting or publication signed by the Deputy National Secretary in the guise of Acting National Secretary is illegal, unauthorized, and should be disregarded,” the statement continued.

This latest development comes as tensions rise within the PDP, especially following recent actions by Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Wike announced that he is stepping back from all prior agreements with the party’s leadership. He claimed that his decision stemmed from what he described as continued provocation by some top party figures.

Wike did not mince words when he accused certain PDP leaders of worsening the crisis rather than seeking its resolution. “I have been fighting for this party since 1998,” Wike said, expressing frustration with what he sees as betrayal from within.
