Valentine Ozigbo, a former CEO of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria and ex-member of the Labour Party (LP), has said that Peter Obi will likely not run for president under the LP in the 2027 election. Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election on the LP platform, may soon leave the party, Ozigbo claimed.
Ozigbo, who recently joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), made this statement while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday. During the interview, he shared insights from his time in the Labour Party and discussions about political coalitions that led him to believe Obi would not remain with the party.
“I don’t see a future for the Labour Party. I’m happy to live with that assertion, and I would like to be proven wrong,” Ozigbo said.
He further noted that Obi had previously moved between different political parties, including the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), before joining the Labour Party.
“Peter Obi that we are talking about also left ANPP to APGA to PDP to Labour Party and I can almost guarantee that if he wishes to run for election, it’s not going to be under Labour Party. I can almost guarantee that,” Ozigbo stated.
Although Ozigbo clarified that he is not Obi’s spokesperson, he claimed to have witnessed various coalition discussions that gave him reasons to believe in Obi’s potential move.
“I am not his spokesperson. Maybe I am wrong, but I am a witness to a lot of discussions around coalitions and which I can tell you my own optimism about that,” he added.
