Peter Obi Visits Niger Flood Victims, Donates N20 Million

The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has visited Niger State to sympathize with victims of the recent flood disaster that swept through Mokwa Local Government Area. During his visit on Monday, Obi donated the sum of N20 million to support the affected families.

The devastating flash floods claimed the lives of at least 153 residents, with more than 100 people still unaccounted for. The tragic incident destroyed homes, farmlands, and displaced many in the Mokwa communities. Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, said he was deeply moved by the level of destruction and the grief of the affected families.

Obi was warmly received at the Niger State Government House in Minna by the Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba. The Deputy Governor welcomed Obi on behalf of the state and led him through a short briefing on the scale of damage caused by the floods.

During his visit, Obi said he plans to meet directly with the victims’ families to offer them personal comfort. He also offered prayers for those who died in the disaster and wished the grieving families strength to cope with their losses. “I prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and for God to grant the affected families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” Obi said.

Deputy Governor Garba noted Obi’s visit and donation, saying it showed compassion and concern for Nigerians beyond political lines. He said, “This gesture shows your love for humanity and support for people in times of need.”

The former governor also urged both the federal and state governments to improve efforts in disaster preparedness and response. He said natural disasters will keep affecting lives unless proactive steps are taken to prevent or reduce damage.
