PHOTO: VP Shettima Briefs President Tinubu In His Office

Vice President Kashim Shettima briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday regarding the country’s current state of affairs following Tinubu’s two-week leave.

During the update, Shettima provided details about his recent diplomatic visit to Sweden, where he represented Nigeria in significant discussions with Swedish leaders.

President Tinubu departed Abuja for the United Kingdom on October 2, 2024, for a two-week break as part of his yearly leave.

His Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had earlier stated that Tinubu would use this time as a “working vacation and a retreat to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms.”

After concluding the two-week vacation, which included time spent in the UK and France, Tinubu returned to Nigeria on October 19, 2024.

While Tinubu was abroad, Shettima managed the responsibilities of the executive office and took on key engagements. Notably, he made an official visit to Sweden for two days, where he conducted high-level meetings with Swedish government officials.

Stanley Nkwocha, the spokesperson for the Vice President, mentioned that Shettima held discussions on various diplomatic and economic matters.

Among these meetings was an interaction with Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, as well as a formal discussion with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.

In addition to Shettima’s Sweden visit, Tinubu had earlier requested him to lead Nigeria’s delegation at the Commonwealth Summit in Samoa.

However, due to unexpected circumstances involving the grounding of Shettima’s aircraft in New York for repairs, he was unable to attend. Instead, a delegation of ministers represented Nigeria at the summit, ensuring Nigeria’s interests were still represented.

Pictures released by the State House show Shettima seated with Tinubu in the President’s office as they discussed the latest developments in both national and international affairs.
