PHOTOS: Atiku, Sambo Visit Aregbesola in Osun Ahead of Owa Obokun’s Coronation

Two former Vice Presidents of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo, were in Osun State on Friday, May 24, 2025, where they paid a visit to former Minister of Interior and ex-Governor of the state, Rauf Aregbesola. The visit took place at Aregbesola’s private residence in Ilesa, just a few hours before the coronation of the new traditional ruler of Ijesaland.

The leaders arrived in preparation for the official installation ceremony of Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, who has been confirmed as the 49th Owa Obokun of Ijesaland. The coronation ceremony is scheduled to hold in Ilesa later today.

Atiku shared a short video clip from the visit on his verified X account (formerly Twitter). In the post, he can be seen engaging in a friendly breakfast meeting with Aregbesola, Sambo, and others. He captioned it, “Breakfast time at the residence of former Governor of Osun State, Engr Rauf Aregbesola.”

Although the exact purpose of the visit was not officially disclosed, political observers believe it is likely connected to the coronation and possibly ongoing political realignments within the state and the country. Both Atiku and Sambo were warmly received by Aregbesola and key political allies.

Notable figures from Osun’s political scene were also present at the gathering. Among them were Lowo Adebiyi, former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun; Alhaji Azeez Adesiji, who leads the Omoluabi Progressives group; Moshood Adeoti, a former Secretary to the State Government; and Najeem Salaam, who once served as Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly.
