The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of South Korea following a devastating plane crash involving Jeju Air Flight 2216.
The catastrophic incident took place on Sunday, December 29, 2024, when the Boeing 737-800, en route from Bangkok, Thailand, attempted to land at Muan International Airport in South Korea.
During the landing, the aircraft skidded off the runway and collided with a wall, triggering a massive explosion. The accident resulted in the loss of 179 lives out of the 181 people on board, leaving only two survivors in critical condition.
In a statement issued by Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Government expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy.
The statement read, “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the government and people of South Korea, particularly the families of the victims, as they face this immense loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this painful period.”
